Get to know the talented individuals who bring music to life at Columbus Community Band. Our dedicated conductors and musicians work together to create harmonious melodies that resonate with our community.

Richard Tyndel
Mr. Tyndall is a native of Clinton, North Carolina and currently the Band Director and Instrumental Music Teacher at South Columbus High School where he is enjoying having been a musical educator for 20 years and counting. Due to the influence of some amazing educators coupled with a natural aptitude for music, he knew he wanted to become a band director as early as middle school. He attended college at Greensboro where he earned a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education and Music Performance. While a student at UNC-Greensboro, Mr. Tyndall performed with the nationally acclaimed UNCG Wind Ensemble, Symphony Orchestra, Jazz Band and Trombone Ensemble. In addition to his ensemble experience, he has performed as a soloist, clinician, and private teacher on numerous occasions. He has performed with the Fayetteville Symphonic Band, Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra, Carolina Philharmonia and Second Time Around Big Band. Mr. Tyndall is also the recipient of numerous awards and scholarships. In 2000 he attended the North Carolina Governor's School with a concentration in Instrumental Music. He is also the recipient of the North Carolina Teaching Fellows Scholarship and the Elizabeth von Nappon Music Scholarship. He is a member of several professional organizations including NAfME, SEDBA and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity of America. Over the years Mr. Tyndall's students have participated in MPA, Solo & Ensemble and various honors bands. In 2009, Mr. Tyndall was selected to be the clinician for the PSRC Honors Band. He was the conductor of the Sampson County Schools Middle School All-County Band in April 2019. Mr. Tyndall was also named the 2021-2022 Teacher of the Year at Littlefield Middle School. During most summers Mr. Tyndall works as a trainer to help evaluate NBPTS portfolios. He has also worked as staff at several summer music camps and high school marching bands.

Wayne Linton
Wayne Linton is a clarinetist, educator, and community leader based in Whiteville, North Carolina. He earned his Bachelor's degree in Music Education from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke in 2022. Mr. Linton currently serves as the Band Conductor at Central Middle School and the Assistant Band Conductor at Whiteville High School. In addition to his work in education, he is the Conductor of the Columbus Community Band during our Fall and Winter seasons, where he has led the ensemble through a variety of public performances and community engagements. With a commitment to both musical excellence and community development, Wayne Linton continues to inspire through his leadership, musicianship, and service.

The Columbus Community Band is an incredible organization of volunteer musicians dedicated to positively impacting their community through music. Under the experienced leadership of their conductors, both former and current, the band has achieved many accomplishments and is deeply thankful for their involvement and support.

Michael Beck
We are pleased to announce that our Community Band was served from March 2021 to March 2023 by Mr. Michael Beck. Mr. Beck graduated from East Carolina University with a Master of Music Education, and we are very appreciative of the time he spent with us. During his time with us, he directed the band at West Columbus High School. We are thankful for his service and wish him the best in his future endeavors.
Rev. Eddie Fort
We would like to extend a special thanks to Reverend Eddie Fort. He has been with us since Day One, playing the French Horn. Eddie has stepped in several roles as needed and conducted in one such example. His presence has been invaluable.
Chris Embry
We would like to thank Chris Embry, who volunteered his time and talents to helping our Community Band grow. As the very first Conductor of the Columbus Community Band, his efforts helped us greatly in starting the ensemble we are today. His contributions are greatly appreciated, and we wish him the best.

Nicolaus Manshack
